[ she manages a faint smile and leans into the touch, brushing some stray hair behind yang's ear. absently, she presses a kiss to the inside of her wrist. ]
[ yang nods in agreement, but doesn't make much of an effort to move away. simply being near blake makes everything easier. breathing, thinking, being. she'd do anything to stay here longer. ]
I gotta check on--. [ she stops short, taking a steadying breath. they'd just finished covering this, hadn't they? this isn't her burden to shoulder alone. letting go is okay. ]
You mind checking on Ruby while I get ready to crash? Fair warning, she's probably bored out of her mind and plotting a way to sneak out of the house.
[ that's better. blake's smile widens a little as yang cuts herself off, leaning in to steal a quick kiss after she asks. ]
Yeah. [ she moves to separate herself a little, grabbing her plate and a few slices of the pizza. some's for herself but she wants an offering for ruby, too. ] You go on up, okay? I shouldn't be long.
[ yang can't help smiling back, exhaling in a dreamy tone, ] Gods, what'd I ever do to deserve you?
[ it's a mostly rhetorical question. she'd said as much that day in december, after all, that there's nothing to earn, that everything between them is given freely. but sometimes yang wonders if she was born under some lucky star or auspicious phase of the moon to have blake in her life.
or maybe, she thinks while standing and leaning down to place a kiss between blake's cat ears, it didn't really matter how or what brought them together. all that mattered was that they'd found where they were meant to be.
the second floor is eerily quiet. which means ruby's either asleep or working on climbing out of the window with the assistance of crescent rose. either outcome is entirely possible. yang lingers on the threshold of her and blake's room with her hand on the doorframe, instinct urging her toward her sister's room to make sure everything's okay. her fingers drum against the wood in a staccato of agitation. it's just a few steps away and it'd be so easy--
she turns into their room and flops face first on the bed, not bothering to crawl under the covers. she browses the network again (nothing new) and turns her attention to her texts, frowning at emerald's name near the top of her recent contacts. ruby wasn't the only sister yang's worried about, albeit it's a worry tinged with.... well, a lot of things. and all of them conflicting.
she's so absorbed in re-reading their exchange from a few days ago that she doesn't hear blake come upstairs or approach their bedroom. ]
[ well, everything with ruby goes smoothly enough. after about five minutes, blake steps into the room and locks the door behind her, pulling her sweater up and over her head and showing the purple button-down shirt underneath. she drops onto the bed next to yang silently, similarly flopping face-down.
she slips her arm over yang's back, pulling her close to her side. ]
Hey. [ blake turns onto her side to face yang, just... enjoying the proximity for now. ]
[ blake's arm around her back is a pleasant distraction from the swirling thoughts in her head. there'll be plenty of time in the coming days (and weeks and months) where the heavy weight of what's happened will settle on yang's shoulders, but right now, under her touch, she feels lighter than air.
yang puts her away her fluid and shifts onto her side, brushing their noses together. ]
Hi. [ she reaches up to play with the ends of her partner's hair, gently twirling it around her fingers. ] ...she okay?
[ she leans forward a little to press her lips to yang's, hand resting on her cheek. ]
Sleeping. I left some meds and pizza for her. [ it hurts, knowing she can only do so much to help with this. that she can't just take it on for yang, even for a moment. ] Are you okay?
...no, [ yang murmurs after a long pause. ] I will be, though. Might take a while, but it gets easier to deal with.
[ at least, that's what experience tells her. tai's mood improved a hundredfold after yang seriously started on the road to recovery after losing her arm. she wishes she could be as strong as for ruby as he was strong for her.
most of all, she wishes he were here. ]
Thank you, again. [ she curls further toward blake, closing the little distance between them. ] For helping and...being here. Everything, basically.
There's nowhere else I want to be. [ she says that at last, tucking her chin above yang's head as she holds her. ] I won't... lie and say it's not hard sometimes. [ like now. she sounds almost hesitant to even say that much. but she knows that yang knows how she feels about this: they're in this together. they protect each other. they help each other. ] But I know I'm not always easy either, Yang, and you've never...
[ yang's never given up on her. never acted like she was too much, never resented her baggage. blake breathes in and turns to press a kiss to the top of her partner's head, keeping herself in that position. ]
[ for once, blake is wrong. loving her has never been difficult.
to yang, it's something as natural as breathing, as easy as walking. it's an intrinsic part of who she is. (her name is yang xiao long. she's tall, has blonde hair and lilac eyes. she has a sister by blood, another two sisters by adoption, one dad, two moms. and she is hopelessly, endlessly in love with blake belladonna.)
that blake loves her back is no shock, but the tenderness of it all strikes her in the heart, causes her to tear up from the impact. she buries her face in her partner's shirt and clings to her as if she's a life preserver in a storm. ]
I love you, too, [ she answers, voice muffled and sincere. ] So much.
[ blake closes her eyes, drawing a deep breath as she pulls yang closer and starts to rub circles on her back. if she wants to cry, she can cry. ]
I should have told you sooner. [ the uncertainties of the town had just made things difficult. sure, there had been good moments to put it out there. they had been alone and content and wrapped up in each other so many times, here, but...
whatever else she wants to say dies on her tongue. she doesn't know where to begin. ]
[ yang tries and fails to hold back a hiccupping sob, weakly shaking her head to disagree. ] It's okay. Nothing to blame yourself for. I wanted to tell you, but....
[ the timing had never been right. months of separation after the fall of beacon, bushwick farms and the apathy, argus, adam, atlas.... even here, there'd been one horror after the next. pulling blake aside to talk--really talk--felt so small in the grand scheme of things. ]
[ blake understands, of course. it had always been one thing after another. she gently tilts yang's chin up to look at her, going in for a kiss, even if she can feel tears starting to fall down her own cheeks. ]
I'm with you. For as long as this place lets me, okay? No matter what Sodder or Remnant throws at us.
[ later, yang will think of this moment when before stepping through the lighthouse door. there are good reasons to stay and help everyone adjust to their new lives. but it'd be avoiding the work left behind at home. a distraction is a distraction, no matter what good intentions lie behind it.
and nothing's going to distract her from the possibility of a life with blake. nothing.
so she kisses her like the world's ending (which it is, twice over). she kisses her like she loves her (which she does so much). ]
Same here. Nothing's keeping me from you. [ she reaches up to brush away blake's tears with her thumb. ] And if Sodder or Salem or whoever else thinks differently, they got another thing coming.
no subject
