Whatever Emerald's seen while working with Salem can't have been good. She sounded...scared.

Yeah. I got the same impression.
The rest of Salem's goons have seemed more than willing to follow along with what she's doing.
So I don't really know what to make of it.
If she's being honest than I do want to try and help her.
...That might sound kind of dumb considering how things turned out with Neo though.
I do think teamwork makes the dream work and if we're going to get out of here and get home we need all the allies we can get. She'd be a good one to have around.

I know she apologized and you guys have probably talked. And she talked to me after...after things happened. In fact, she messaged the whole group and sounded upset about the whole thing.

I don't doubt how she's feeling. I think before everything went crazy last month we were on our way to getting somewhere.
I want to believe in her and I think I do.
But...
Just thinking about her makes me remember what happened last month.
And that scares me. A lot.
I don't know if it could happen again but maybe we'd be better set up to prevent it if we were working with her instead of against her.
Maybe I just need to give it time.

I think Emerald and Neo are kind of a packaged deal.

[There's the sound of some shuffling outside Yang's door. Ruby was back up on her feet with only the more minor effects of deathflu plaguing her now. Her bed was one of the last places she wanted to stick around in for too long.

She gives the door a knock before she enters the room. Her big red blanket wrapped around her little a big Ruby Burrito.

Don't mind her as she shuffles her way over to Yang's bed and before just tilting over until she flops over onto it and Yang.]

Hey.

[ yang doesn't respond since she can hear ruby right outside her door. it's nice to see her up and about even if it means having all the air crushed out of her lungs when she flops onto her. what's a little bodily harm between siblings? ]

Hey, Ruburrito. [ she places a hand on sister's forehead and nods in approval. no fever or clammy skin. seems like recovery is coming along nicely. ] Lookin' comfy.

[Sometimes sisters have to attempt to crush sisters. Normally she'd make a playful fuss as Yang tried to check for a fever. ...But considering what everyone had been through she thought it might be best just to let her sister do her mom thing.

It was mainly the odd case of the shakes, random bone chills and sleepless nights now, but she could deal with that over being deathly sick. She let her arms slide out of the blanket to burrito to give her sister a hug.]

Even better now, can't think of a better way to spend a Monday.

[ yang would normally be at the shop on a monday like this, but she's called out of her job for until she felt her sister was ready to face the world again taking care of ruby is the most important job she has right now. any job given to her by the townspeople come at a distant second.

she gently returns the hug, placing her chin on top of ruby's head. ]

...it's gonna be okay.

Or dumb minds never differ. That's what Uncle Qrow used to always say.

[The both of them had work they could be doing and while Ruby was slowly getting better, it was nice to have her sister there to support her. Like she always was.

She just settles in when Yang rests her chin there.]

I know... It's just going to be awhile until things feel that way.

We'll find a way to get through together.

I believe in us. And I want to believe in Emerald too.

...And even Neo.

Good thing we're smart as they come.

[ the ability to believe in a person despite evidence to the contrary is one of ruby's many traits that yang is proud of. that after everything she's been through and everything she's seen, she knows that deep down, no one is beyond redemption if someone will give them a helping hand.

it's also the ability that scares yang to her core.

they'd already seen what believing got them. a body they couldn't find, a wellspring of grief with no bottom. yang had barely survived her sister's first death. what would happen if a person close to her snapped and caused the second? or, gods forbid, the third? the very thought freezes the blood in her veins.

she forces herself to breath, her next words measured and thoughtful. ]

...I want you to be safe. If you say you want to trust Neo and Emerald, fine, but you've got to promise look out for yourself. And you've gotta let the rest of us look out for you, too.

I can't think of anyone better or brighter than us.

[...Ruby feels her chest tighten hearing Yang's next words. She wasn't wrong. Far from it. Ruby had spent so much time over the last few months going out of her way to try and make sure everyone around her was safe. Whether she cared for them, or didn't know them, or even if they were her enemy. She had let herself get torn apart she had tried so hard.

...Part of her didn't regret it, but there was a part of her that wished she hadn't hurt her family as bad as she had. She should have leaned on them more instead of letting things get out of hand like they had. Or at least she should have taken more time to rest so she was in proper shape to do the things she felt needed to be done.

Her arms hold onto Yang a little tighter.]

I'll do my best... I- I don't want to worry you like I did before.

I'm going to try and do things a bit differently from now on. So that what happened last month wont happen again.

It's not about us being worried, it's about you being alright, [ she quickly counters. ] I don't want what happened last month to happen again either and that means we've gotta work together. We're Team Rye. Teamwork makes the dream work, remember?

[ yang matches ruby's hold in kind, voice on the edge of breaking with too many emotions to name. ] So whatever you want to do from now on, I'm on board. Just fill me in. I'll back you up no matter what.

[Ruby sucks in breath hearing that. She put a whole lot of effort into making sure the people around her were alright, even if it put her in a worse spot because of it.

She knew her sister was just trying to look out for her and she appreciated it. When she speaks up she tries to lighten the mood a touch between them.]

You're right... I maaaaaay have taken things a little too far the last little while.

Team RY is my second favorite team out there. Even if it's like one of the worst tasting breads out there.

And if that's the case then you'll be the first to know about what ever I get up to around here. I promise.

[ yang happily matches the lighter tone, a smile on her face although ruby isn't able to see it. ] Your second favorite team? I always knew you were Team CFVY's biggest fan! Ugh, the betrayal.

[ she pauses for a second before continuing, ] And I promise I'll pull you out of whatever mess you got yourself into. Magic words.

[There's garbled gasp as Yang completely ruins the moment she was trying to have here, but she's happy to roll with this new topic too.]

Have you seen Coco Adell in a fight? How could you not be her biggest fan?

I know, Yang. Even if magic words don't actually exist. ...Or I guess they do, huh? That's weird.
